It's been 10 years since a toxic miasma covered the planet, forcing the last remaining humans to flee into space. Bits, a newly activated Chibit, awakens in a scrapheap. What will he find in the nearby uninhabited factory and beyond?

Development

Chibits was developed for the Metroidvania Month 9 game jam that took place from August 15th, 2020 to September 15, 2020 (https://itch.io/jam/metroidvania-month-9). Heavy inspiration for gameplay comes from games such as Metroid, Megaman, Celeste, and Hyper Light Drifter.

Even though the jam lasted for a whole month, the game is fairly short and not terribly difficult. Not every planned feature was able to make it into this build. We hope you enjoy playing through it as much as we enjoyed making it!

I definitely see potential! Excited for the full version. Some feedback: I wish enemies would visually show that you hit them (like turning white). I wish that you could Sword attack in mid-air. The camera feels a bit jerky and not smooth. Also, the grid lines kept flashing in for some reason. Good luck moving forward! I hope this isn’t abandoned

What does the "triple sword slash" do?  I'm not seeing any apparent difference after picking it up.  Can still only do the single slash and damage hasn't changed...

try pressing the slash button 3 times in quick succession. 3 different animations should play; 1 for each slash

I kinda liked the overall design of this, but I have to say it really wasn't clear what to do on the boss at ALL. There was almost no feedback to tell the player they were doing the right thing and hurting the boss. I kept doing the right thing and it seemed to be having no effect so I ended up having to look it up anyway...

can you add arrow keys

Very good game. I like the soundtrack and the movement. Played it for a while. 

This is a lot of fun! Nicely done - the play is smooth and the sounds are great. Well done.

It's well done, I especially enjoyed music and level design with all the loops and shortcuts. Character movements are smooth and pleasant and ledge-grabbing ability really added a lot to the game. Exploration was ok, but the world itself felt somewhat dull. 

Unfortunately, I have encountered a bug that prevented me from finishing the game. The broser throw a notification and game just froze on me. It happened here:


Thanks for the feedback! Yes, that's a known issue and I didn't have time to fix it unfortunately. That's the boss room and it only crashes on the WebGL build. If you'd like to fight the boss, you'll need to download the standalone version. Sorry about that!
